More info about buying this product

The Mizuno Wave Rider 13 is one of most popular shoes in the Mizuno line-up of running shoes. The Wave Rider is considered a neutral shoe, designed for people who do not need any medial arch support. The thing that stands out about the most about the Wave Rider is the fit. Fit tends to be personal and subjective so let me elaborate. The insole of the shoe tends to be very comfortable for people with high arches. In addition, the Wave Rider has more of a “straight” cut. From my experience putting people in this shoe, it accommodates a slightly wide foot a lot better than other brands.

When it comes to quality and durability, the Wave Rider 13  performs up to par with other high-end running shoes. You can expect anywhere from 350-500 miles out of the Rider. It is a big range that is primarily dependent on your weight and the frequency of use.

The Technology:

Mizuno uses a plastic Wave in the sole of their shoes to add cushioning and stability. They are unique in that they do not use different density foams to add medial arch stability to the shoe. The Wave Rider is gender engineered to better accommodate the differences in running styles between men and women. The Mizuno Intercool system helps reduce heat and humidity buildup inside the shoe.

Our Performance Opinion:

Trails: Not designed for them. It will work, but not like a trail shoe will. Avoid rocky technical trails.
Road: Fantastic. Great for short and long-distance runs.

5k-10k Race: Good. At 10.5 oz. (for men) and 8.6 oz. (for women) this shoe is a great choice for short distance events.
Half Marathon & Marathon: Excellent. This shoe provides a lot of comfort on long training runs and races. It is a great choice for a 1/2 marathon or marathon.

About the Reviewer: Male – 190lbs.

I switched from a pair of Saucony ProGrids to the Mizuno Wave Runner 13 earlier this year and couldn’t be happier. They are very comfortable and lightweight. Initially the tongue seemed a bit thin on cushioning but I’ve found it is more comfortable than the cushioned tongue of my old Sauconys. I’ve worn these shoes in 5K, 10K, and 1/2 marathon events and am very pleased with their performance. I’ve put over 100 miles on these shoes and they still look and feel like new. When my current pair wears out I am planning on sticking with the Wave Rider 13.
