Today for Trail Tuesday we are going to review the Brooks Adrenaline ASR 6.

The Brooks Adrenaline ASR is what I like to call a “hybrid” trail shoe. This means Brooks took a very popular road shoe, and made a trail version. There are two noticeable differences between the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10 and the Brooks Adrenaline ASR 6 (though technically there are more than two difference, I am not going to dive into the technological differences in this post). First the upper part of the shoe is a little stiffer as there are more overlays on the trail version. This gives you more of the lateral stability you need for running trails. The second is the tread on the shoe. The trail version is much more aggressive and has much better traction on the trails.

If you like running in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 10 you will most likely like the ASR 6. I have used this shoe on a variety of trails from fire roads to steep, rocky, technical trails. The shoe is very comfortable on all types of trails mentioned.

PROGRESSIVE DIAGONAL ROLLBAR (PDRB®) – Our tri-density midsole is biomechanically engineered to allow for progressive pronation control and creates a smoother transition from the midstance phase into the propulsion phase.
DRB® ACCEL – TPU injected unit in the mid-foot stabilizes the foot while maintaining responsiveness and torsional balance with smooth foot-motion transfer.
S-257 CUSHSOLE – Durable, energy-efficient midsole compound utilized as an insole board for even more cushioning and flexibility.

OUTSOLE:
HPR Plus -  (a “higher durability rubber”)
HPR Green – A durable and long-wearing outsole compound is made with dispersed silica, resulting in premium wet-dry traction for excellent skid-resistance and a more environmentally friendly composition.
Forefoot Stable Pod Construction – Midsole and outsole components are engineered to set the foot up in an efficient, balanced position from heel strike to toe-off, offering maximum stability and responsiveness.

Our Performance Opinion:

Trails: Great! A solid performer on a variety of trail types.
Road: Good. As mentioned above, this is a hybrid shoe and is comfortable on the road as well as the trail

5k-10k Trail Race: Great as long as the race isn’t too muddy.
Trail Half Marathon & Marathon: Excellent. The ASR 6 is just as comfortable for long races as it is short.
