Team Trinity
Eugene de Juan III
Leon Ortiz
Kim Cheung
Overall time: 2:51:00
AE: Have you ever done an event like this before?
Eugene: This is my first event, this is my first adventure race and I think this is the first time Leon Ortiz has ridden on a mountain bike.
Kim: First time I’ve run in 3 years.
Eugene: We really didn’t practice for this race but we did a good sprint.
Leon: No bones broken.
AE: So how were the conditions out there?
Leon: Pretty hot.
Eugene: You know it was pretty good.
AE: What was the most difficult part of the race?
Kim: The running.
Eugene: The most difficult part was the running because we didn’t get a lot of training in. It was a little bit difficult for the skill things particularly when your heart rate was so high. But we pulled together as a team, we had excellent leadership with Kim who came out here from San Francisco just to do this race.
AE: I saw the transition from the paddle to the bike. It didn’t look like it went smoothly for a lot of people on account of the sand, would you say that was the case?
Eugene: Well you know we started out a little bit ugly, we didn’t really have our strategy together. We pulled together, we actually let Leon swim by himself but we cheered him on from the paddle boat. Kim was the one manning the front and I was the little red engine on the end. So we came in and pulled together, it wasn’t too sloppy for us actually.
Leon: We didn’t finish last which was good.
AE: Leon, you said it was your first time on a mountain bike. How was that experience?
Leon: It was pretty bumpy, but I didn’t fall down so I think that was good.
AE: Would you like to do another event like this again?
Eugene: Oh for sure.
Kim: Definitely.
Eugene: Only if I had the same team.
AE: Thank you and great job out there today!
