Asics Gel-Kayano 16
The Asics Gel-Kayano 16 is the plushest shoe in the Asics running line. Many features of the 16th version are the same as the 15th. The Gel-Kayano is designed for someone who needs a significant amount of medial arch support. It is also designed for someone who is a little on the heavier side, like me. Asics puts a lot of “stuff” in the Kayano 16, just like they do with most of their high-end running shoes. As a result, the shoe feels incredible when you first put it on. The most significant change I noticed in this version is the material of the sockliner. It is definitely softer than the previous version and frankly, feels like a slipper material.
I really like the Gel-Kayano because it is very comfortable and accommodates a wide variety of foot types. Just like the previous version, the Gel-Kayano 16 is a heavy shoe, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.
The thing I don’t like about the shoe is that it tries to control the foot’s motion too much. You may notice, like I did, the bottom of the shoe feels “lumpy.” The shoe is trying to manipulate your foot’s movement too much.
All things considered, it is a great shoe and the heavier you are, the less you may notice the “lumpiness” of the shoe. If you try it and don’t like the “lumpiness”, ask for a Gel-Kayano 15. I didn’t notice it in the previous version.
